FLR (Female-Led Relationship)

A relationship in which the woman holds primary authority over major decisions by mutual agreement.

An FLR, or female-led relationship, is a partnership where the woman takes the lead on key decisions and direction. The arrangement is agreed on by both partners rather than assumed or imposed.

The degree varies widely. In some couples it means she manages finances and household plans, while in others it extends into a more structured dynamic around daily routines and roles that both people choose deliberately.

What sets a healthy FLR apart is consent and communication. Both partners understand the roles, revisit them as life changes, and either can raise concerns when something stops working for them.

The label can attract assumptions, so it helps to define what it means for you rather than borrowing someone else’s version. If this structure appeals to you, talk through specifics before adopting the term. Clear expectations about money, parenting, and the small daily decisions matter far more than the name you give the dynamic.
