Dicksand

Dicksand is when someone gets so absorbed in a new sexual or romantic partner that they disappear from friends and normal life.

Dicksand describes getting stuck on a new partner the way you would get stuck in quicksand. The stronger the attraction, the harder it is to climb out and act like yourself.

Someone in dicksand cancels on friends, drops hobbies, and reorganizes their life around the new person, often within a few weeks.

The pull is usually physical and chemical. Early attraction and great sex flood the brain with feel good signals, which can make someone ignore red flags or neglect everything else.

Friends often spot it first, watching a person vanish into a relationship that may not even be that serious.

The word is gendered in form but the pattern is universal. A healthy version of new romance still leaves room for the rest of your life, not just the person you are infatuated with.
