Peacocking

Peacocking is dressing or behaving in a flashy, attention-grabbing way to stand out and attract potential dates.

Peacocking means using bold clothing, accessories, or behavior to draw eyes and signal confidence in a dating setting. The name borrows from the male peacock fanning its tail to attract a mate.

It might look like a loud jacket, a statement hat, an unusual accessory, or a deliberately surprising story meant to spark questions. The goal is to be the person someone remembers in a crowded room or a busy app inbox.

The tactic was popularized by pickup-artist communities, so it can read as performative if the look does not match the person wearing it. It often pairs with rehearsed lines and routines, which tend to feel hollow once the novelty wears off.

If you want to stand out, lean into things that actually reflect you rather than a costume. Authentic interest and genuine style hold attention far longer than a gimmick once the first impression fades.
