3Fun Review 2026: Costs, Privacy and Verdict

3Fun is a couples-and-singles dating app for threesomes, swinging, and open relationships. Its iOS app launched on 28 October 2016. The current App Store listing bills VIP through auto-renewing in-app purchases starting at $29.99 a month, and the official site is go3fun.co.

For this review, I read both sets of terms and the full privacy notice. Every pricing tier was checked against Apple’s published in-app purchase list.

The operating company and Feeld were checked against public registers. I also reviewed the security page and the penetration-testing case study cited by 3Fun.

Registration was tested on an iPhone without buying a subscription. No member grid was sampled, so this review does not publish its own age or gender breakdown.

3Fun Rating Breakdown

3Fun rates best as a functioning niche app with real store distribution. It offers clear couple-account tools and free chat once two profiles match.

Apple shows 4.4 stars from 146,790 US ratings. Google Play shows 4.3 from 61,839.

Ownership clarity, privacy exposure, and pricing pull the score down. Buyers can see the subscription charge through Apple or Google.

Paid pre-match messages are expensive, while the privacy notice allows sensitive data to be accessed in more than one country.

My verdict: 3Fun is a real app operating at real scale. Matches can chat for free, and billing runs through Apple and Google.

The score is held back by an offshore operator, a privacy notice that allows access from China, and paid messages priced well above the competition.

What 3Fun Actually Is

3Fun works like a swipe dating app for singles and couples. You create a profile and choose what kind of person or couple you are.

From there, you choose who you want to meet and Like or Pass on recommended profiles.

Free chat is the feature worth knowing about: two profiles that Like each other can talk without paying. Google Play release notes for the current version reinforce that point: “Chatting for free with Matches.”

How Couple Accounts Work

Couples get more than a single shared label. One option is a shared couple account.

With this setup, both partners log into the same account and share messages and connections.

Linked accounts, joined by QR code or invitation link, offer a second option.

With linked accounts, matches can see which partner is typing. The setup also enables group chat with a partner and a match.

If a couple wants to switch from linked to shared, the FAQ says they must first unlink the accounts. They must then edit the “I am/we are a” field.

3Fun’s own scale claims are large, but they remain company claims. The About and homepage counters give 10 million downloads and 3.0 million active members. They also claim “1000,000” messages sent each day and 3 million connections each month.

Onboarding runs through five slides: “3,000,000 Monthly Connections,” “Group Chat,” “Couple Account,” “Screenshots Not Allowed,” and “Meet Like-Minded Singles & Partners.” Four of the five focus on privacy or couple tools; only the last is about meeting people.

When an app puts a screenshot warning ahead of its matching pitch, it suggests that privacy is a major concern for its users. Whether the warning actually does much is a separate question, and I return to that below.

Nobody outside the company can audit those totals. Later, I compare them with what the two app stores actually publish.

Who Runs 3Fun

The Terms of Use identify 3Fun Limited as the operator. They describe it as “a company registered in the Seychelles with its registered address at 306 Victoria House, Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles.”

The same Seychelles address turns up in the US terms’ DMCA agent section.

Seychelles has no publicly searchable company register. As a result, I could not verify 3Fun Limited’s incorporation date, directors, or filings from outside.

That limits verification, but it is not an accusation against the company.

3Fun’s own materials name the founder only as Max. Its About page says software engineer Max founded 3Fun in 2015, while the DigitalXRAID case study says founder Max M. launched an app in 2016.

Feeld is easier to verify on paper. UK Companies House lists FEELD LTD as company number 08916634. It was incorporated on 28 February 2014, with a registered office in Carlisle, England.

How Signing Up Works

3Fun’s identity picker offers ten options. It lists Single Man, Single Woman, and Man + Woman couple.

You can choose who you want to meet, then Like or Pass on recommended profiles.

Free chat is the feature worth knowing about, because two profiles that Like each other can talk without paying. Google Play release notes for the current version repeat it: “Chatting for free with Matches.”

Profile setup asks for a nickname of 3 to 12 characters, a birthday with 18+ required, and orientation. Only the age becomes public, according to the birthday screen.

Interests are searchable and grouped, with examples in the screenshots including Self-Healing and Exercise. You can pick up to ten interests.

Photo Rules and Verification

Photo upload offers three slots. The app says “Photos with clear faces will increase your success” and warns users about photo content.

Users should not include nudity, weapons, kids, or anything kinky in photos.

You must upload a photo before you can Like or Pass anyone. The FAQ says, “You need to upload a public or private photo to Like or Pass these recommended profiles.”

Public photo rules are strict. Nudity, lingerie and underwear indoors are all out of bounds in public photos.

Pornographic or illegal material, real or simulated sex acts, and sex toys are out. So are fetish gear, ropes and rope play, watermarks or text overlays, guns and violence. Photos containing minors are banned outright, even where the account holder is in the shot as well.

It rejects scenery as a first photo.

Verification requires a selfie with a thumbs-up gesture. 3Fun does not show the verification photo to other users.

For shared couple accounts, both partners must appear. A profile will not clear verification if the selected gender does not match the profile information.

Sign-up does not make one thing obvious. A public face photo is optional.

You can upload a private photo instead. You can get that verified and still browse, Like and Pass with it.

If your reason for using a threesome app is privacy, find that setting before the first swipe. It costs nothing, and it is not in the onboarding carousel.

What Gets an Account Blocked

3Fun publishes its own list of block reasons. Most apps in this niche do less.

A profile can be blocked for a fake or inappropriate verification photo. It can also be blocked for no verification photo at all.

Nude album photos, “certain inappropriate messages,” or being under 18 can also trigger a block.

Moderation is manual. 3Fun says it reviews all profiles and photos by hand.

During that review, it will “set the clearest and most attractive one as your Profile Photo” for you.

Letting a moderator choose your profile photo is unusual. You should know that before uploading a set you have thought about.

3Fun removes photos that break the content rules in the same pass.

Problems appear when 3Fun explains blocks. On 16 July 2026, a Google Play reviewer described a ban after months of use.

3Fun told them only that they had “violated the rules.” Its public reply sent them to the support address without giving one.

Published policy does not promise an appeal, a warning, or a refund of unused subscription time after a block. Pay for three months and you could lose the account in month one.

Apple’s or Google’s process still controls cancellation and refunds.

What You Get Without Paying

The best free feature is chat after a mutual match. 3Fun’s FAQ says, “Yes, you can chat with MATCHES (MUTUAL LIKES) for free.”

Registration, browsing recommended profiles, Like and Pass, uploading photos, photo verification, Block Contacts, and account deactivation are also free. That is enough to see the basic flow and talk to people who already liked you back.

Free use stops before features that speed up contact. Free accounts cannot see who liked you first.

They also do not get unlimited likes, Pokes, incognito mode, boost, read receipts, or distance hiding.

3Fun also uses a like-count tease in the paywall. The screenshot supplied for this review showed “2 People Already Liked You,” then placed the reveal behind VIP.

That makes 3Fun usable without paying, but slower. If you only reply to mutual matches, the free account can work.

Want pre-match messages or incoming likes? That is paid territory.

How Contact Works After a Match

Matching is the gate. Two profiles Like each other, the pair appears under Prospects, and from there messaging is open with no per-message charge.

How a couple appears in that conversation depends on the account model they picked. On one shared account, both partners log in to the same profile.

In the FAQ’s words, partners “share all messages, connections on different devices”.

Two linked accounts work differently. Matches then “know clearly which person they are chatting with”.

Either partner can invite the other plus a match into a group chat.

Settle that distinction before signing up together. Switching later means unlinking and rebuilding the profile through the “I am/we are a” field.

A couple that wants a match to know who is typing should choose linked accounts from the start.

Activity adds a lighter layer. Matches can like and comment on your public or private photos, your About me, and your Private Details.

Settings gives each sharing option a separate toggle.

How Much 3Fun Costs

The Three-Month Plan Is the Only Sensible Entry Point

Apple’s US in-app purchase list shows 3Fun VIP Service for 1 month at $29.99. Three months costs $39.99. That works out at $13.33 a month.

That is a 55.6% saving against paying $29.99 each month. Three months also costs less than two months bought monthly, which would run to $59.98.

If buyers expect to use 3Fun past about week six, the three-month plan makes the arithmetic work. Apple’s published US top-10 in-app purchase list does not show an annual tier for 3Fun.

Pokes Are the Expensive Product

Pokes are 3Fun’s paid pre-match message product. Apple’s US list shows 2 Pokes for $9.99 and 5 Pokes for $19.99. The best listed US pack therefore works out to $4.00 per Poke.

VIP changes that calculation. Members get 5 free Pokes a week.

The number resets at 00:00 on Mondays. Five per week is about 21.7 Pokes a month.

Buying 21.7 Pokes à la carte at $4.00 each would cost $86.80. A month of VIP on the three-month plan is $13.33.

Put another way, one $4.00 Poke costs more than a week of VIP on the three-month plan. That weekly VIP figure is $13.33 divided by 4.33, or $3.08.

Euro Buyers See a Different Tariff

The euro paywall screenshot showed VIP at 1 month €34.99, 3 months €44.99, and 6 months €69.99. It marked the 6-month plan “Save 67%.” That saving checks out because 1 minus 11.66 divided by 34.99 is 66.7%.

The same euro screenshots showed 2 Pokes for €9.99 and 5 Pokes for €22.99. US Apple pricing showed $29.99 for one month and $19.99 for 5 Pokes.

EU App Store prices include VAT, while US prices exclude sales tax, so tax accounts for part of the gap. Read them as two tariffs side by side.

A straight currency conversion would make the gap look larger than it really is.

Cancelling Is Apple’s Job, Not 3Fun’s

3Fun’s FAQ is direct about cancellation: “Deactivating/Deleting your profile doesn’t cancel your subscription. All the payments go to iTunes/Google Play and we are unable to cancel the free trial/subscription for you.”

You cancel in Apple ID Subscriptions or Play Store Subscriptions. Apple’s and Google’s policies govern refunds.

The App Store blurb says any unused free trial portion, if offered, will be forfeited after subscription purchase.

What VIP Actually Buys

The VIP paywall lists ten benefits. They are See Who Has Already Liked You, Unlimited Likes, 5 Pokes per week, Incognito Mode, and Last Login.

Below those sit Boost Your Profile, Video Call, Read Receipt, Hide Your Distance, and Sticky to Top. That is the list a buyer sees at payment in the supplied screenshot.

The FAQ’s “VIP Privileges” list also contains ten items, but it is not the same list.

It names Unlimited profiles, Message before matching with 5 Pokes per week, Last login, Boost your profile, and Read receipt. Then come Search by different locations, Incognito mode, Hide your distance, Sort your prospects, and Sticky to top.

Boost, in the FAQ’s wording, means your profile is shown 10 times more than others. Location search and prospect sorting appear only on that list.

The paywall advertises Video Call and See Who Has Already Liked You. The FAQ list has neither.

Instead, it adds location search and prospect sorting. In other words, the same product has two feature lists.

I report that mismatch because it affects how a buyer reads the subscription screen. If one of those tools is the reason you are paying, check the current in-app paywall before buying.

The 2019 Exposure, and What Changed

In August 2019, CNET reported that Pen Test Partners had found 3Fun users’ data, location, and photos exposed. TechCrunch received and verified the research.

Exposed data included members’ “near real time location,” photos, birthdates, sexual preferences, and chats.

Pen Test Partners called the app a “privacy train wreck.” It wrote, “how many relationships or careers could be ended through this data being exposed?”

That quote matters because this app involved intimate contact, sexual preferences, and location.

The report also found members apparently located at the Supreme Court and the White House. CNET included the report’s caveat that a user could have been faking their own location.

CNET gave this disclosure timeline. 3Fun received the report on 1 July 2019. The company replied, “Thanks for your kindly reminding. We will fix the problems as soon as possible.”

Pen Test Partners said 3Fun “took action fairly quickly and resolved the problem.”

3Fun told CNET, “We sincerely apologize about the vulnerability. We took the action immediately… Security updates to 3Fun’s API, servers and mobile application were made on July 2nd and a new, more secure version of the app was released on July 8th.”

At the time of that report, 3Fun claimed 1.5 million users.

What the App Does Differently Now

Photos are private by default now and are served with presigned URLs. 3Fun says it uses imprecise locations to generate approximate distances of around 1 to 3 miles.

3Fun saves only the approximate distance on its APIs.

On the same page: “3Fun’s database is highly encrypted and all data is secured and stored in Amazon US.” Amazon WAF sits in front of the app, according to the same page.

The onboarding slide headed “Screenshots Not Allowed” fits that current privacy posture. It does not erase the 2019 history.

What the Penetration Test Actually Covers

3Fun’s FAQ says it has passed DigitalXRAID’s penetration testing. The case study itself describes a Web Application Penetration Testing service conducted over five days.

DigitalXRAID’s own result sentence is narrower: “The 3Fun application showed no high or critical vulnerabilities at the completion of the testing period.” It does not address low and medium findings either way.

A five-day web application test with no high or critical findings provides real but limited assurance. It is not the same as a public statement covering the iOS app, Android app, or every API area.

Those areas mattered in the 2019 report.

3Fun also publishes a bug bounty page. Rewards are $150 for medium and $300 for high, with no critical tier published, and reports go to support@go3fun.co.

Where Your Data Goes

3Fun’s privacy notice says, “Your personal information will primarily be processed by us in the Seychelles and our service providers in the United States of America. It may also be accessed by our affiliates in China.”

The international transfers section says 3Fun uses service providers in the USA and may also share personal information with “companies that have the same ownership as us in China.”

The cookie banner says providers may process data outside the EEA, including in the USA or China.

The notice also says the level of data protection may not be the same as in the EEA.

This matters because 3Fun collects special category data by design. The privacy notice names “your sexual orientation and information about your sex life.”

Couple accounts can include a partner’s sex, gender, nickname, date of birth, sexual orientation, preferences, and bio.

How Long They Keep It

Retention is harder to interpret because two 3Fun documents do not line up.

The privacy notice says 3Fun retains a profile two months after account deletion, or three months for VIP. It deletes accounts inactive for two years.

It keeps some traffic data for one year for statutory retention.

Deactivated accounts are kept six months, the FAQ says, including account info, profile info and messages, and then removed permanently. Logging in during that window reactivates the account automatically.

Those documents give different retention periods for account data after deactivation or deletion. I am not resolving that contradiction because the evidence file contains no later correction.

Location Is Not Optional

Location is the permission 3Fun cannot run without. Its FAQ opens the subject with “In order to use 3Fun, you’ll need to grant access to your device’s location,”.

It then gives instructions for iOS, Android, Chrome, Safari and Firefox.

Distance-based dating apps often require location access. It is also the exact data category involved in the 2019 report.

Since then, 3Fun says it stores an approximate 1 to 3 mile distance instead of a position. That change matters here.

Block Contacts is another privacy tradeoff. The onboarding screen asks, “Want to avoid someone you know on 3Fun?” and offers Import Contacts or Add Manually.

When you use that feature, you upload contact details for blocked people. The app can then hide profiles from people you know.

For a privacy-sensitive app, some users may accept that trade-off.

There Are Two Sets of Terms

3Fun publishes two terms documents, and they do not say the same thing.

The one linked from the App Store puts everyone outside the EEA and UK under English law. A second version, at a different address, applies to US users and puts them under Delaware law instead.

That US version sends disputes to arbitration rather than a court. You give up class actions and jury trials along with it.

You can say no. New users have thirty days from accepting the terms to opt out, by emailing support@go3fun.co with their full legal name.

Almost nobody does this, mostly because the store link never shows them the US document. If you are in the US and plan to pay, it is a two-minute email worth sending.

The only independently checkable install figure here is Google Play’s 1M+ downloads band. Apple and Google ratings are also checkable through their store listings.

3Fun self-reports active-member counts, connections per month, and messages per day. A case study about 3Fun reports some counts as well.

3Fun’s own two sources disagree on active members. The site says 3.0 million, while the case study reports 2.5 million.

They also disagree on messages per day. The site says “1000,000,” while the case study reports more than 400,000. That first figure appears exactly that way on 3Fun’s own page.

The comma sits in the wrong place on a counter meant to impress visitors.

I did not sample a member grid for this review, so I do not publish a city-level count, age split, or gender split.

If those numbers matter to your decision, install the app and look at who the recommendations actually show you in your area.

What Members Say

Both store scores sit comfortably above four out of five, on rating counts that run into six figures on iOS. Reviews with detail behind them tell a narrower story.

Google Play also displayed a 16 July 2026 review. It said, “App was fine, expensive and photo requirements are strict but I know thats probably to prevent fakes. However as a real person my account was randomly banned after using it for months with no explanation, and when asked for one was just told I ‘violated the rules.’”

A Google Play review dated 8 June 2026 described the app as generally legitimate in the Bay Area, but complained about the way Pokes are presented and then placed behind a premium paywall. The reviewer said they would consider a mid-tier membership if it cost about one-third as much and offered fewer perks, rather than the current choice between free use and a $30 option.

Another Google Play review, dated 6 April 2026, reported that profile Likes could randomly turn into passes and that messages sent to matches could disappear. The reviewer said they had paid for a subscription but still experienced the problem, which they considered a waste of money and time.

3Fun answered two complaints with the same boilerplate: “Hello, your problem needs more detailed examination. Please report it to our technical support team at support@go3fun.co…”

Those quoted reviews do not cancel out the store ratings. Instead, they point to the risk areas I care about most: bans, paid Pokes, and paid accounts still experiencing app problems.

I could not read Trustpilot and Reddit for this review, so I claim nothing from them here.

3Fun vs Feeld and Tinder

Feeld is the comparison that matters here. Tinder appears in the table for scale. It has 4.19 stars from 1,734,683 US ratings.

Apple’s list prices its paid products by cohort.

Against Feeld, 3Fun’s three-month VIP price is cheaper. Its paid pre-match message is much more expensive.

At each app’s best published pack size, a 3Fun Poke is $4.00. A Feeld Ping is $1.75. That makes 3Fun’s paid pre-match message 2.3 times as expensive.

Pros and Cons

Who Should Use It

3Fun makes the most sense for singles and couples who want a niche app. They should understand that free chat only starts after a mutual match.

They also need to be comfortable with strict public-photo rules. People who value couple accounts, linked partner chat, and pre-match messages enough to study VIP pricing may get more from it.

Privacy-sensitive users should read the privacy notice before signing up. 3Fun is built around sexual orientation, sex-life information, partner details, photos, and location-based matching.

The notice says data may be accessed by affiliates in China.

US users should also read the US terms and decide whether to email the 30-day arbitration opt-out.

Anyone who would hate a surprise renewal should cancel through Apple ID or Google Play. Deleting the 3Fun profile does not cancel the subscription.
